Mark Wiebe (aka Sinewave) has been on the cutting edge of underground Canadian
electronic music since the August 2001 launch of Interplanetary Ridicule. The album caused
an instant sensation with its unique jazzy, smoked out amalgam of drum & bass, downtempo,
efx and B-movie samples, going straight to the top of the charts at the University of
Manitoba’s UMFM and closing out the year as the station’s number one album of 2001. The
album ended up placing eighteenth on !Earshot’s Top 200 of 2001 and songs from the album
have received airtime around the globe on Solid Steel Radio.
Shows accross Canada, including showcase performances at Canadian Music Week and New Music West, have earned Sinewave a dedicated and loyal following. Sinewave’s latest work,
Unity Gain, has been a work in progress over the past three years and has seen him trade
in his drum & bass beats for some of the sweetest vocoder vocals this side of Air’s Moon

Pete Samples, a young and precocious newcomer to the Canadian electronic
music scene, is the first signing to Vinyl Republik. Samples has spent
the last few years perfecting his craft as an artist and performer. Pete,
whose live performances see him rocking out on the guitar, keyboards,
and turntables, combines sample driven grooves to create music that is
fuelled with hip hop, jazz, and rock influences.
"I never set out to make a certain genre of music. I want to leave all
doors open to walk through at any point. Music to me is about experimenting
and expressing myself. My music changes day to day as my influences change
each day."
Although originally from the prairies, Pete Samples is now studying in
Montreal where he is pursuing a fine arts degree and doing what he does
best - making music. His latest CD -

Unsent Letter is included on the !Earshot charts - Top 50 in
Canada for March, 2005. The single "Awkward Goodbye" was included as one
of New Music Canada's Top 20 songs for 2004. He is currently preparing
for live appearances across Canada to take place throughout 2005.

An extensively schooled musician, Lampshade (Paul Shrofel) is a pianist by trade.
Through the use of the keyboard, drum machines, and samplers, Lampshade single-handedly
creates the music of an entire ensemble. Lampshade's material is lush with elements of
organic jazz combined with progressive electronic nuances.
Lampshade started his specialized study of music at Winnipeg's Precursor Productions
concentrating on electronic production. He then honed his talents as a jazz pianist
training in performance and composition at McGill University in Montreal. This experience
in both traditional and future music synthesis has enabled Lampshade to put out music that
is both progressive and accessible to a diverse range of audiences everywhere. Factoring
in his ability to perform live, Lampshade is definitely one Canadian musician to watch out for.

Originally a bassist, then guitarist now laptop performer, cj_harder has
been a proponent in the Winnipeg music scene for nearly 15 years. Throughout that
time Harder has performed with a veritable who ’s who of the Winnipeg music scene and
toured extensively across Canada. Harder ’s current musical output for VR is heavily
influenced by jazz, dub and various permutations of downtempo styles. Currently residing
in South East Asia, this founding member of the Vinyl Republik crew will soon be returning
to Canada with the coinciding release of his debut 12".
